Photographs said to have been taken Sunday showed huge numbers of monks in their dark red robes parading between cordons of civilians, who walked along with them holding hands in protective human chains. Nuns, in robes with their heads shaved, also joined the demonstration.

ニッポンのお寺さんって、デモしないよな。貧民救済もしないよな。工場まわったり深夜のマン喫まわったりもしないのかもな。ダンスしたりカラオケしたりはするらしいが。埋めちゃった方がいいかもな、そんな坊主。
「ラーメン餃子館・小次郎新宿店」でいっしょだった、×××さんたちとかどうしてんだろ。彼女も敬虔な仏教徒だった。1999年頃には、東京に沢山ミャンマー人がいたので、むこうから偉いお坊さんが集会を持ちに来ていた。なんでも日本の後にはカナダなんかへも廻るっていう話だった。ディアスポラの多い場所は世界中ひととおり廻るってことだったのだろう。ミャンマー語の本も見せてもらった。当然わかんなかったんだけど、フロイトだか心理学者の名前とキータームが英語で書いてあった。「時代錯誤な格好してるけど、ミャンマーの仏教っていうのは、状況に即して活動的に動くんだ」と感心した。「本気でやってる」ってだけの話なんだけど、感心した。状況と相即するためにこそ、時代錯誤な服装と習慣を崩さないのかもしれない。

A Norway-based dissident radio station, the Democratic Voice of Burma, said one monk was killed and several injured in clashes in downtown Yangon. The death could not be confirmed by other sources.
"The troops opened fire into the crowd, and they also used tear gas and some Buddhist monks have been beaten up," said Aye Chan Naing, the station's editor, citing reports from his reporters in Yangon, who were trying to confirm reports of three other monks killed.
About 300 monks and activists were arrested across Yangon after braving government orders to stay home, according to an exile dissident group, and reporters saw a number of cinnamon-robed monks, who are highly revered in Myanmar, being dragged into military trucks.

日テレを見てたら、キャスターたちが、「ミャンマーはわれわれには馴染みの薄い国だ」としながら、「ビルマの竪琴」の話なんかしていた。
なにを言ってるんだ！
2002年頃までは、ミャンマー人ってあんなに沢山いたじゃないか！
テレビのキャスターたちは、食堂とか居酒屋とか行かなかったのか？ ガススタンドとか使わなかったのか？ いっぱい居たよ！ 会ってない訳ないんだ！ ミャンマーでは一級建築士だった人やら学校の先生だった人やらいろいろ居た。
きっと彼らには、ネパールも馴染みの薄い国なんだろう。日テレの報道局スタッフたちが食べてた弁当って、ネパール人が作ってたんだけど、きっと知らないんだろう。ネパール人のパーカッショニストと中国人外科医が作った弁当を、僕が配達していたのだ。確かな話だ。
